TroyBoy did make a comment regarding the nose to Archie.

Looking good.
Archie are you going to fill in the lines?

Archie's reply:
Nope, he wants the nose seperate.

My reply:
The reason it's not getting filled is if the bumper has to be removed for any reason and if I'm not mistaken red box is one piece [PIC 1]... Right Archie or is it separate so we can fill the lines and do this[PIC 2]?

No reply but a few post later....

Just a few pics of some of the surfaces & edges on the front clip that Kris is trying to get all fitting perfect with each other. In additon he filled in the molding areas on the front fenders, reshaped the wheel well opening lip & is finishing off the flush mounting of the front emblem.

We had a communication issue, which was later resolved. Again the growing pains of customizing. I wish I was living in IL or Archie's shop was down in FL. Both parties have to work together and it's so much easier when you are physically closer, you can be on site to communicate and see in person whats going on. You might have one idea and understanding but the other party might be understanding differently.

Note is normal when customizing.

The side marker lights. I looked and looked and looked. I like the Mini Cooper ones. They cost less then $30 on ebay for the set (two front orange/two rear rear). Also the Lotus Exige uses these similar ones. I like their vertical form... Thinking outside the box.

Archie and his team decided to paint them on to have a visual before cutting the fiberglass.

Fiero Store's turbo scoops w/ glass modified for choptops. Took lots of time to cut up and get it right.

The area we have to fit into is measured as follows.....
Line "C" is 5.8" long. The angle from line "C" to line "A" is 29 degrees. The angle from line "C" to line "B" is 111 degrees. Lay this out on a pc. of cardboard & it looks like this.....

- - -

- -

Now, let's take a look at the mirror, we'll get back to the triangle later. I did a complete layout inspection of the mirror. For reference here, we're going to call the area where the mirror legs meet the base plate the "BODY". The 2 legs of the mirror have Radii where they meet the base plate. I measured the mirror "BODY" at the base of those Radii, no more no less.

-

The basic "BODY" of the mirror is 4.45" long & 3.35" high. The legs are rounded a bit where they meet the base plate. So I rounded the corners of the 4.45 x 3.35 rectangle "BODY" with some tape.

- - -

- - -

the mirror would have to be mounted a little over 2" down into the door panel to avoid modifying the "A" pillar.

19" OZ Superleggera III wheel test on a '88 Pontiac Fiero. I need a bigger wheel!

Wheels test fitting.
Chuck "MotorTV" brought one of his rear wheels over today for a test fit on #25. The outside wall of the tire sticks out about 1/2" at the top of the wheel well.

Special thanks to Chuck (aka MotorTV).

This is the exact style O.Z. Superlegger III that I want. Black w/ chrome lip. 19" at the front & 20" at rear. Will need a pro to mesure the wheels due to my suspension is from a '88 model versus '84-'87 years. As you can see the wheel sticks out. Chuck's Notchback is an '86.

>HRE wheel test using choptop #22-pre '88 wheels.

FRONT seem to fit well.  smile
-

REAR stick aout about an inch. sad
- -

>HRE wheel test #2 using choptop #20-pre '88 wheel.

Rear wheel sticks out 1/2". In the inside lip there is 1.15" of separation from the coil over.

EDIT 03/17/2007
Tire Rack in South Bend, IN gave me the specs to MotorTV's wheels (for '84-'87 Fiero w/ custom Arch FRONT widebody and Mad-Arch REAR widebody).
Front 18x8 w/+22mm offset, 2" outer lip and 225/35/18 tire.
Rear 19x11 w/+10mm offset, 4" outer lip and with 315/25/19 tire.

EDIT 11/26/2008
HRE wheel data

Mad Curls flip nose (choptop #20-pre '88)
FRONT: R23124 T19P397020 = 19x9" Dia. Offset +39mm
REAR: R30678 5T20P117040 = 20x11" Dia Offset +11mm with a 4" outer lip and 7" inner barrel.

Troyboys IMSA (choptop #22-pre '88)
FRONT: R55816 R5A19P357015, 19x8.5" Dia. Offset +35mm
REAR: R55816 R5A20P057050, 20x12" Dia. Offset +5mm.

EDIT 12/08/2008
Car-2-Lo's custom choptop & widebody.

Brand: Axis
Model: Matrix
FRONT: 18x8", +40mm Offset
REAR: 20x10.5", +35mm Offset (Nissan 350Z 5x114.3mm BP)
Spacer: (rear) 1.50" (1-5/16 thick ?)

EDIT 01/05/2009
Factory 1988 Fiero GT 15" wheel specs:
Brand: Western Wheel
Model: Diamond Spoke Alum
FRONT: 15x6", 37mm offset
REAR: 15x7", 41mm 35mm offset

Factory 1986-1987 Fiero 15" wheel specs:
Brand: Western Wheel
Model: Diamond Spoke Alum
FRONT: 15x7", 35mm offset
REAR: 15x7", 35mm offset

Founds additional info on CalgaryFieros.com
"If I read this correctly, this means that the 15x7 wheel on all four corners of the 86-87 GTs are different than the 15x7 wheel on the *back only* of the 88 WS6 cars."

GOOD POINT! Yes, they are different.
There is a three letter stamp on the OEM wheel:

XBZ: 86-87 (35mm offset). This also goes for the '88 rear wheels.
XRS, XXJ: back of 88 (41mm offset) REAR WHEEL

I had a blow out with Archie due to customization issues, but we are good again. On with the project.

Here is an idea presented my MMBRAZIL down in Brazil who makes the Diablo replica mirrors. The same as Archies thoughts without violating the "A" pilar.

Archie and his team are going to work on this.

Diablo mirror and Fiero Store turbo scoop w/ glass modified for choptops... test.

- - -

Yesterday I was up at Archies. If I recall correctly these mirrors stick out 1.5" more than TroyBoys F430 mirrors! Archie was not to crazy about them, but I love that they stick out! biggrin I'm going to need mirror insurance or take two parking spots.... Cause I can! wink

The base of the mirror and the stem on the base had to be modified.

Now on to the right side and the deck vent.

Nice MMBRAZIL released the same mirrors in Carbon Fiber...

They are sick!  biggrin
Of course the base would have to be modified for Fieros (chop or non chop).

Update from Archie...

Kris made a completely new fiberglass base for the right side mirror (just like he did on the drivers side mirror) Also the door panel has been modified. Lots of filling & sanding yet to do but it's on the car & it's all down hill from here.

Updates from Archie...

Just about done.
Got the Sideburn, 1/4 panel lines lined up on both sides of car.
Got to final install the side marker lights.
Going to pick up a few cans of primer this weekend so we can spray bomb some primer on it to make it presentable.
Just a couple of hours monday & we'll be done.
