Title: ** YOUR MOVIE REVIEWS **
Post by: exoticse on May 28, 2008, 08:50:18 AM
Seen a good movie, or been subjected to a dud ??

Share your thoughts or reviews on any new movies you might have seen ! Let's rate them on a 5 star system.

My first thoughts,...

IRON MAN - GREAT Movie !! I grew up reading the iron man comic book, but the great thing about the way this movie was done is you don't ever have to have read any comics at all to understand and enjoy.

The visuals are awesome and you will find yourself saying WOW many times over. i was very skeptical about Robert Downey Jr playing the starring role, but he surprised me and was perfect and very impressive.

i have a new found respect for him as an actor. Lot's of NICE CARS in this one too ! Downey drives the new Audi r-8 several times and it looks bad AZZ ! He has a really nice stable of exotics and hotrods in his workshop as well, seen throughout the movie.

I give IRON MAN 4.5 Stars !! Well worth the $.
P.S. comic fans, stay until after the credits, you will get a bonus hint about an upcoming project involving iron man !

SPEED RACER - I grew up watching the cartoon, so i enjoyed this movie. Very campy, so don't expect anything serious.

Nice visual stunts and effects and some cool looking cars. If you are not into speed racer you probably won't appreciate or enjoy this one.

** 2.5 stars IMO. **

I actually saw it twice ;D and being able to catch stuff I missed when I first time (like the Samuel L. Jackson cameo after the credits). IMO it's surpasses the first Spiderman (by a bit), but not Batman Begins. I loved the R&D and the stripper pole in the private jet too. ;)

It was great to hear that Marvel Comics invested most of the money ($100 mil) which gave then control to do the their way and not Universal Studios way.

I give IRON MAN 4.5 Stars.

Didn't get to see Speed Racer yet... Looking forward to Batman: The Dark Knight. But not to the Hulk.

Saw the Hulk this weekend. Forget about the Hulk (2003) movie. It was really good. Almost as good as Iron Man. Seems like Marvel had there hand in this project too!  :)

Thanks for the info Dave !

I am a huge Hulk fan, but was exremely disappointed and disillusioned by the 2003 movie and was very skeptical about ever going to see this new one, but it is good to hear they may have gotten it right this time.

I will probably go see it this week.

BUCKET LIST - Watched this movie last night and as always Jack Nicholson is excellent. Even at his age this guy is still one of the funniest and best out there.

There are some medical scenes and situations in this movie that are hard to watch at times, but this movie will have you laughing, cheering, and maybe even a little misty eyed if the tear jerkers get to you.

We all wish we could go out like these two guys ! There is a very cool car scene in this movie and the secret about the coffee will have you erupting with laughter.

Pay attention to the very first scene of the movie on the mountain, make your assumptions, and then compare it to the last scene of the movie and what it really was or meant.

** 4.0 stars IMO  **

Ok, guess I need to input here since I'm a movie junkie.

I agree the new hulk was great. Iron Man also was a must see. Backpeddling, did anybody see 10,000 BC? My kind of flic.

Nobody mentioned Get Smart, it was a long chuckle, better than I anticiated.

Today I saw Wanted. I'm normally not a fan of heavily tatooed women. In the case of Angelina Jolie and her character in this flic . . . well, there are always exceptions!

Haven't seen Get Smart or 10,000 BC. I did see Wanted! and Sex and the City.

Lots of action, seem's like it was filmed in Chicago. I agree with Marc.. I'm not a fan of tatooed women. Side note Angelina Jolie was way too skinny :(

I second that !

This is one of those movies that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy. Very lighthearted and comedic.

Don't go looking for something too serious, just a fun enjoyable movie.

Well, I just saw this morning Batman and I have to say it was incredible. Way better than the last one. Heath Ledger did an outstanding job playing the Joker and IMO better than Jack Nicholson. I give it 6 stars out of 5. That's how good it was.  A must see!

Afro Samurai (2007)

Saw the other night a 5 series Japanimation (for adults only). The voice are from known actors Samuel L. Jackson (Vioce to characters), Ron Perlman (Hell Boy), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2).

Four Stars... Very good and close to being as good as  Ninja Scroll (movie) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Scroll).

Amazon.com
The violent five-part adventure Afro Samurai marks both the increasing confluence of American and Japanese pop culture and the shift in Japanese depictions of African-Americans. The popularity of hip-hop in Japan has led to more positive images of blacks, including Takashi Okazaki's original manga. The "Director's Cut" contains an additional 15 minutes of footage, and is even gorier than the broadcast version on Spike TV. As a boy, Afro Samurai saw his father beheaded by the maniacal Justice. The murderer sought an ancient headband that marks the wearer as the #1 warrior in the world. As an adult, Afro seeks only revenge, cutting down anyone who blocks his path to Justice. Afro Samurai depicts a oddly anachronistic world that infuses cell phones, cigarette lighters, and cyber technology into traditional Japanese culture. The elongated character designs recall Peter Chung's Aeon Flux, and much of the series is rendered in moody grays, accented by gobbets of scarlet blood. Afro is such a taciturn figure, most of the dialogue goes to his motor-mouth comrade Ninja Ninja. This big budget production features an eclectic score by Wu-Tang Clan co-founder RZA and an A-list vocal cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson and Ron Perlman. But for all its elaborate production values and over-the-top fights, Afro Samurai suffers from a weakness at its core: Afro is so monosyllabic and cold-blooded, he's not very interesting. His inevitable duel-to-the-death with Justice lacks the emotional punch of Spike's face-off against Vicious in Cowboy Bebop or Kenshin's one-on-one with Shishio in Rurouni Kenshin. This extremely violent series is not for the faint of stomach. (Rated TV MA, suitable for ages 17 and older: graphic violence, profanity, sexual activity, grotesque imagery, nudity, risqué humor, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

I went Sunday to see Death Race

My youngest son, the apprenticing movie mogul, looked at me appalled at my choice of movies. My wife just shook her head non comprehendingly. ???

Let me set you straight folks, I won't mislead you. With this picure you have no insipid, character build-ups to begin associating with. No twisting psychological sub plots to concentrate on. No witty banter to try and follow between your gulps from your quart of soda, or handfuls from your tub o'popcorn. ;D

"This" is a movie you can enjoy!! Prison designed vehicles built expressly for maximum mayhem, destruction and carnage! :o Don't wait. Go now and get your discount matinee tickets. Ease back in that theatre seat and be prepared to be hypnotized by high rev, engine noise, assaulting you through the mega watt surround sound speakers.

After this flic, you won't be able to get back in that Fiero and not rev that engine, or stomp a foot full of accelerator! Get moving you neanderthals, prepare to be entertained, I was!! :-\

Just noticed something of interest, Amazon has VANISHING POINT on DVD for $6.99. The interesting part is this is the Fox release (can tell by the blue cover with two helicopters).

On the front side is the US version (98 minutes) which has been on TV a million times but on the flip side is the 108 minute UK version. This includes the long-missing Charlotte Rampling sequence that was cut from the American release. If you collect car movies, this is a must.

OK i did it,...Yes i went to go see THE FAST AND FURIOUS, on Sunday.

The first couple of shows were sold out, and the one we went to was packed. At any rate i think this one was actually pretty good.

More of an actual movie storyline, and to be honest the cars were kind of secondary. Mostly muscle cars in this one, but a lot of the action focused on high speed driving manuvers and such.

If there is one thing i think all of the Fast and Furious movies can hang their hats on is that the ending/final scenes are all pretty kick ass and leave you with that awww yeah type of grin and feeling.

This one was about what i expected. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Rented and watched the movie " GRAN TORINO ",...very good flick !!

Stars Clint Eastwood as a grumpy, retired, bigoted auto worker and war vet, whose remaining sole love is his 1972 Gran Torino automobile. Well when some Asian neighbors move in next door,...the poop hits the fan, with some rather surprising developments.

Nice drama, and some good laughs too.
(Side note,..lots of language, and ethnic slurs so definitely not one for the kids.)

Also some cool car stuff in the extra stuff offered after the movie is over.

I give it 4 stars from me !

Went to see Fast Five on opening night and i gotta give it the thumbs up.  Clearly the best of the series so far IMO.  :D

Lots of action in this one as well as some rather impossible stunts, but hey what do you want, it's a movie hehehe.

Great fight between the Rock and Vin Diesel. Gotta love the absolute last scene !

P.S. stay after the credits for a another scene leading into the next one ( set after Tokoyo Drift- movies were out of sequence when released, Tokoyo drift is actually after this one).

Went to see X-Men: First Class. Best X-Men to date (beats first one). On my top list of superhero movies with Iron Man 1 and Batman Begins. Loved how they mixed in the 1940's - 1960's eras (Nazi and the Cold War eras). Kevin Bacon was great!

I finally got around to watching Avatar. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in the minority here, but I thought it was lame. It was like a geek fantasy where the Indians beat out the White Man. And the characters were so stereotypical, it almost hurt to watch.

The ONLY saving grace of this movie was the CGI, which was excellent. But CGI doesn't make a movie. You need good writing, directing, and acting. And those areas were pretty lacking.

ONE THUMB UP

Ok just rented 3 movies from the mighty red box
The Dilemma
The Green Hornet
Battle: Los Angeles

The Dilemma: Pretty good. The sub plot about an electronic v8 sound generator was lame, but still an ok movie

The Green Hornet: Great idea, bad acting awesome cars

Battle: Los Angeles: Loved it, Military guys will be able to point out the flaws - But over all the best alien invasion movie this year

My question is this:

Will Daphne and Sam be viewing this movie, and if so, will they be applying some of the teaching techniques this fall?  :O

Inquiring minds want to know.

Saw it yesterday at the $1 Theater in Altamonte Spg. Good movie. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson were good! Full muscle and no rice in this one.

Watched Real Steel

I liked it - 3.5 out of 5 stars

Wife and I went to the theater to watch Ghost Rider 2:  Spirit of Vengeance

(http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/Bj4C9_GDroAcPjqDB_qqwg--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Zmk9ZmlsbDtoPTMxNTtxPTg1O3c9MjE1/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/Movies/Hotzilla/ghost-rider-spirit-of-vengeance-poster-970522097.jpg)

I'm sorry to say but it was Lame. They replaced the chopper with a sport bike, Pappy had to called foul on that. The special FX were nothing compared to the original movie and an awful, just awful story line - Nicolas Cage should have passed on this one boyz

I give it 1 out of 5 stars

Good Science Fiction, interesting story line, touch of history, lots of action and a love story!

Wife enjoyed it (and she usually hates my movies)!  :D Score!

Saw the 3 Stooges - I loved it

Made me laugh real hard and they did a good job in casting - Curly was the best tho

A lot of the supporting cast I recognized from TV commercials

I give it 5 out of 5 Nyuks

Last night I rewatched "Secondhand Lions" with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall.  It came out in '03, and if you get a chance to watch it (currently available on Comcast Xfinity), do so.  Really enjoy what they do to traveling salesmen :).

Wife and I went and saw Battleship. It was freakin awesome!

The aliens lose there communication ship in a collision when they arrive at earth
They have some similar moral restrictions as to non-combatants which was kinda cool   :wall:
The have kick ass body armor, weapons and technology

I was wondering how they were going to tie it to the table top game we all loved - That was kinda ok  }:(
I couldn't get my head around the drop port anchor tho - Should of pulled the bow under water
Stan's cameo appearance line "Lets drop some lead on these Mother F#*?%rs" was stupendous! :notworthy:

Shredders RULE!

I give it 4 out of 5 Space Ships

Went to see Men In Black III last night. I really enjoyed it and liked the twist that is revealed near the end. I actually guessed what it was before it was revealed, so I won't spoil it.

I too liked MIB III
It was much better than II
The young K was a great casting match

Also went to see The Avengers - Pretty good - We didn't stay all the way thru the credits which I like to do but I did see Thanos, and that equals a lot of dead Superheros  xx(

I saw MIB 3 while in Kansas City.  The young J was a perfect actor to become the old J.  Tommy Lee Jones did look awfully old in the flick. A good place to be, in air conditioned theater, in the 95 degree Kansas City temperatures.

While on the Fiero west cruise we saw the Avengers at the Mall of Americas.  A lot of gratuitous action in the Avengers.

Woo hoo, page 2.

OK, it's been long enough now to ask who your favorite Avenger was and why without being a spoiler.

For me it turned out to be the Hulk. The 2 situations which prompt that pick were:

1 - When Captain America was taking charge, and positioning eveyone for the battle, he placed them all one by one then turned to the Hulk and said "Hulk, smash"! The Hulk just grinned and went "hunghh"! Great scene.

The real clincher:

2 - When the Hulk finally confronted Loki, who stopped him in his tracks initially, and then blabbered on about how creatures like the Hulk should bow down to Gods like Loki. The Hulk then quickly grabbed Loki by the ankles and thrashed him back and forth like a wet blanket against the marble floor, finally leaving him in broken heap. Exiting that the Hulk says "Puny God"!

My hero, definately my hero.

Who's your favorite Avenger and why?

Marc

Ok
Mine is Iron Man

He's a genius, has oodles of money and all the cool toys

I was lucky enough to see a scene that got cut out of the movie
It featured the Unstanitary Avenger - Played by no other than our own Stan

He actually ran into Loki just before the Hulk did. His Avenger uniform was a tattered olive drab sarong a cardboard Halo ODST helmet and some neoprene gloves. He was being chased by a legion of evil doers (He was really leading them into a trap) He runs up to Loki extends his right arm points at him and says

"Pull My Finger"

Loki shocked by the sheer uncleanliness of the Unstanitary Avenger throws up his hands in disgust accidentally brushing the extended finger - This in turn releases a giant green fermented cloud of methane gas on to the legion behind him and in the same motion he crouch jumps over Loki out of Stark Tower and back down on the street!

Now that's my kinda hero!

You obviously watched the special closed captioned version that was only available to perverts and miscreant ticket holders.

I was referring to the general audience version for prepubescent teens and demented droolers.

Please, this is a family forum.

Saw "The Hobbit" yesterday. Enjoyed it a lot.

Some good trailers like Superman but the one that caught my attention was "Pacific Rim". Monsters, giant robots and a teen pilot.... Sounds like a copy "Neon Genesis Evangelion" anime!

Looking forward but with apprehension to seeing the movie 'Jack Reacher', from the Lee Child book 'One Shot'.  I've read the whole Jack Reacher series and it is very good. Would highly recommend the books for those that like to read.  About a former Marine MP that drifts around the country.  My biggest problem is trying to picture Tom Cruise playing a 6'5" 250lb former Marine.

I saw the "Hobbit" at a $4 matinee for old guys today.  I saw the 2D version.  Another great movie with great scenery and lots of action. A 2 1/2 hour at least, but the movie stopped before the book ended so look for another movie to continue the adventure.

Read every Reacher book - Have the same problem visualizing Tom Cruise as Reacher :).

Just got back..... Darn I haven't seen a movie that well put together in years! No wonder the rating on RT are at 98% out of 220 critics.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mad_max_fury_road/ (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mad_max_fury_road/)

Movie seems to focus on Charlize Theron character "Furiosa". They should have named her "FuriosaGTO" ;)

Anybody going to see Mad Max Fury Road tonight?

I'm sorry... But Pappy was unhappy with Fury Road  }:(

It had very little character building and almost zero story line

It had a LOT of action - shooting - car crashing - blowing stuff up

The Pappy Movie Meter calculated it had an action to storyline ratio of 10 to 1

Some vehicles that got blew up on the first leg reapeared and got blown up yet again on the second leg - some people too - the rubble blocked canyon was clean of ALL debris when they came back thru (the wife called shanannagans on that one)

Pappy also didn't like the fact that the 'Last of the V8 Interceptors' was so short lived. That should have gotten WAY more screen time

I'm sorry but as Mad Max movies go - Pappy left wanting more story line and less blowing stuff up - But hey Pappy thought Beyond Thunderdome rocked

These are the opinion of some old guy and do not reflect the position of any people with an IQ higher than 27
